The Commute Mix Plan
A commute built day by day: the trips you really make, door-to-door time on the slow day, each trip priced at what you can avoid, a pass or permit that has to earn its keep, a week mixed from more than one way in, and the CO2 that actually changes
Mobiliance's commuting calculators each answer one question, and each assumes the same commute: ten trips a week, fifty weeks a year, one way of getting there every day. Commute Time left the bike and e-scooter without the lock-up minutes it gives the car. Commute Cost prices an e-bike at its electricity ($18 a year in the worked example) while Cost of Ownership prices the same bike at $508. CO2 Savings counts every trip of that year at a fixed 170 g per km. The Commute Mix Plan joins them up in seven steps. It counts the trips you really make (276 a year for a three-day office week, not 500), times each way door to door on your own route, sets your leave-by time from the 9th of ten logged trips, prices each trip at the costs that stop when you skip it, checks a monthly pass or parking permit against its break-even, and builds a week from a default and a named fallback. For the worked commuter, an e-bike with transit on the off days costs $609.92 a year against $1,545.60 for driving, and an e-bike with the car on off days saves $734.08 while blocking out the same 151.8 hours on the leave-by clock. Every worked figure is an example and is computed by the same code the calculators run. It makes no claim that any way of getting to work is free of risk: wear a helmet, use lights, and follow your local rules for e-bikes and e-scooters. One CO2 factor is cited (EPA, dated) and transit emissions are not invented. Inside: 24 printable pages, seven steps, four working pages, two reference tables and a quickstart, plus a personalised sheet worked from the figures in the calculator you came from.
