MountRides has six free calculators, and the trouble on a real bike is the space between them. The Suspension Sag Calculator used to print a starting fork pressure of your weight in psi: 165 psi for a 165 lb rider, where FOX's 2025 manual starts that rider on a 36 FLOAT at 82 psi and lists 120 psi as the fork's maximum. We took the number out. The Gear Ratio and Chain Length calculators never meet, though every part change needs both, and the Spoke Length Calculator never says which input error costs the most. The Trail-Ready Setup Kit puts the tools in the order a rider meets them. Part 1 weighs you in riding kit (15 lb of kit moves the tires 1.5 psi at each end and the fork chart a full row), sets sag from the maker's chart and the o-ring at both ends, and brackets tire pressure under the lower of the tire and rim maximum. Part 2 sizes the chain to the big-big (430 mm, 32/50: 112 links), finds the cheapest easier gear (a 30T chainring gives 17.6 gear inches against 18.0 for a 52T cassette, one part, and the chain still fits), ranks the spoke inputs by the error each causes (an outer diameter read as the ERD adds 9.9 mm), and ends with a pre-ride check. Every worked figure is an example computed from the site's own calculators, and every rule of thumb is named as one. Torque values, suspension pressures and wheel builds stay with each component maker's specifications and a qualified mechanic.
