The Forklift Fleet Cost Kit
The PowerFork kit for pricing a forklift hour in full, counting the trucks and batteries your hours really need, and choosing electric or engine on whole hours
PowerFork's Operating Cost Calculator prices a forklift hour from energy and maintenance, and its own page says the figure leaves out finance, insurance and the operator. The Battery Runtime Calculator gives an ideal charge time and says real charging takes longer. Neither tells you how many trucks or batteries your work needs, which is where the money in a fleet goes. This kit puts ownership and the operator back in the hour, prices the hours a truck sits, and counts the trucks a week of hour-meter readings and the busiest hour really need. In the worked example the calculator's $2.10 hour is $29.10 in full, with the electricity at 2.1% of it; the fifth truck ran 8 hours a week and costs $15.00 to own for every hour it worked; and a battery that looks too small for an 8-hour shift is using 61.1% of its charge on the busiest truck's real running hours. It then times the real recovery, counts batteries per truck by trying each rotation of your shifts, and finds the hours a year at which electric beats LPG (650 in the example). Every worked figure is an example, computed with our calculators' formulas; your own meters, quotes and data plates replace them. The kit says nothing about what a truck may lift or climb: the truck's data plate, the manufacturer and your trained operators decide. Included: 24 printable pages, seven steps in two parts, four working pages, reference tables and a quickstart, plus a personalised sheet worked out from the numbers you entered in our calculators.
What’s inside
- The whole hour: energy, maintenance, ownership and the operator, against what the free calculator prints
- The idle hour: ownership per hour the truck actually ran, from its meter
- Trucks from truck-hours: the larger of the hours count and the busiest-hour count, and the price of every spare
- The battery against the hours it runs, not the length of the shift
- The real recovery: the ideal charge, the charging losses and the battery maker's rest
- Batteries per truck from your shift pattern, found by trying each rotation
- Electric against engine on whole hours, with the break-even hours a year
- Working pages: an hour sheet, an hour-meter log, a battery plan and an electric-or-engine page
- Reference tables: ownership per running hour, batteries per truck by shift pattern, and floor area for racks
- A quickstart that closes the loop on your three scores, and a personalised sheet on your own figures
